For 75 years, the Academy has codified a comprehensive curriculum in the true Kathak tradition. Drawing upon the Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas of Kathak, Guru Rohini Bhate has synthesised a unique idiom, at once traditional and contemporary.

A five stage curriculum trains students in the technique of Kathak in all its aspects. The Academy’s rich library and other resources foster research in the Performing Arts.

Workshops and seminars form an important part of the calendar. A holistic approach to Indian culture has been encouraged all along through regular lectures and interaction with stalwarts from allied fields : Music, theatre, and other dance styles are critically studied to enhance aesthetic values.

Experimentation in the medium is an on-going activity : the Academy explores new creative avenues in an annual “Gurupaurnima” celebration, during which students perform dance numbers they choreograph themselves. Monthly solo performances are also arranged, a notable platform for young dancers from among Nrityabharati’s students.
